The High Railway Bridge over the railway yard of Zwolle Station, intended for pedestrians, handcarts, and livestock according to the specifications, was built in 1883 and connected the city to the then still predominantly agricultural Schelle.
The design was by Mr. M.J. Schuurbecke Boeije, an engineer in the service of the State Railways. He applied lens girders for the span, a construction developed by the German engineer F.A. von Pauli around 1855.
