The Reformed Church is located in the town of Scherpenzeel in the province of Gelderland. In the village, just south of the church, there was a large fourteenth-century castle that was the home of the noble Scherpenzeel family. This castle has been rebuilt several times and still exists as the 'House Scherpenzeel'. The Scherpenzeel family played an important role at the court of the Dukes of Court of Guelders. There has long been a strong bond between the lords of Scherpenzeel and the Reformed church.
