From above, the elongated shape and dimensions of the estate are immediately noticeable. It measures 3 km in length and is only a maximum of 375 meters wide. This is related to the way peat was extracted in this area in the past.
Several houses have stood on the estate. Nothing remains of the original castle Hoevelaken. The current Huis Hoevelaken dates from 1926 and was built on the orders of Dr. C.J.K. van Aalst, the president-director of the Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij.
Van Aalst housed his internationally renowned painting collection there. The current owner is the Rabo Vastgoedgroep.
The park and forest located behind the house is owned by Gelders Landschap. Special animals can be found here, such as the grass snake and various species of bats. The basis of the park and forest is formed by the beautiful central avenue that runs from north to south across the estate and ends at the picturesque pond in the park.
