Avenue Concordia is a well-known avenue in Rotterdam. Avenue Concordia is located in the Kralingen district and runs between Oudedijk and Oostzeedijk.
Avenue Concordia was established in 1883 on the territory of the then municipality of Kralingen, shortly followed by the parallel Avenue Prins Alexander. The new avenues were meant to be worthy neighbors to the centuries-old Hoflaan, the name of which refers to the Slot Honingen that stood there until the 17th century. The transformation of the area from rural pleasure gardens and meadows to urban district was entrusted to Bouwmaatschappij Concordia NV. In 1864, this company also named the Concordiahofje in the Amsterdam Jordaan. This philanthropic enterprise was named after Concordia ("heart"), the Roman goddess of harmony.
