Oude-Tonge suffered greatly from the flood of 1953. In the night of January 31 to February 1, 305 people lost their lives here.
After the flood disaster, the Swedish Red Cross donated a number of wooden houses. At the time, these houses were placed on the Julianastraat in Oude-Tonge.
In 2007 a large number of these houses were demolished, but the local housing corporation replaced houses and apartments in Swedish style.
