The Maerlant Lyceum is a public school for gymnasium, atheneum and havo with a total of more than 1100 students and 100 employees, located in The Hague. The school is named after the medieval writer Jacob van Maerlant.The Maerlant Lyceum was founded in 1917 as the Second Municipal Gymnasium. The first lessons were given in the school building of the Eerste Gymnasium on the Westeinde, corner Vleerstraat. In November 1917 the school moved to Koninginnegracht 213, where there was previously a boarding house for older ladies. In 1923 the school used a building in the Weissenbruchstraat.
