Blankenberg 7, Cadier and Keer: Blankenberg Castle
Blankenberg Castle, a picturesque castle hidden in the gently sloping landscape, has a beautiful garden and a stately driveway. As early as 1371 Blankenberg is mentioned in the annals. Around 1825, the current three-storey main building was built by order of the Pichot de Plessis family. The De Chestret de Haneffe family had the whole extensively renovated between 1856 and 1863. The two corner pavilions date from that time. In 1904 it became a convent for the French brotherhood of St. Blaise. Later it became a convent of the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus. In 2004, the Academic Hospital Maastricht took over the complex to function as a rehabilitation clinic. The nuns still present moved to Huize Loreto in Simpelveld. Today, the small castle is a care complex.
