The Television Tower in Lelystad was built in 1975 and is 161 meters tall. In December 2006, all of the Netherlands switched to digital terrestrial television. The analog antennas on the transmission masts became obsolete and were replaced in 2007 by new antennas for broadcasting digital television. Until 2007, the Television Tower was owned by KPN.
Alticom has taken over the tower (and 23 other media towers). The mast not only serves as a transmission mast for broadcasting and telecommunication applications, but is also used by the owner Alticom as a data center. The tower is not accessible to the public.
In 2014, the tower was illuminated, making it even more of a beacon in the landscape of the Lelystad region than before.
