Nassau-Barony Memorial

Description

The Nassau Monument was erected to commemorate the 500-year bond (1904) between Breda and the House of Orange-Nassau. In 1404, Engelbrecht I of Nassau-Dillenburg was honoured as lord of Breda.

The statue was made in the shape of a castle and crowned with a lion. In addition to the names and coats of arms of Engelbrecht and his wife Johanna van Polanen, the monument shows the coats of arms of the municipalities in the Barony of Breda.

The monument was unveiled on 3 July 1905 by Queen Wilhelmina.
