Back on the border
This place, a crossroads of peat rivers, used to form the border between Holland and Utrecht, regions that constantly argued with each other. The border of Utrecht and North Holland is still located here. You are now in Utrecht and to your left (to the west) is North Holland.
The hamlet is named after the bridge, but much is unclear about the name of the bridge. It used to be called Stoppelaersbrug or Stockelaerbrug, on a postcard from 1910 is Stappelaarsbrug.
Probably Stoppelaar or Stokkelaar is a reference to a person.
Near the bridge itself is a small snack bar of the same name that is open in summer.
