Description

The Obelisk is a unique stone monument in the middle of the park pond in the center of Vaals. It is a bluestone obelisk that Johann Arnold von Clermont had placed in the 18th century to mark the northern end of the Von Clermont family domain. This Aachen cloth manufacturer Johann Arnold Von Clermont put Vaals on the map with its cloth industry. The textile industry brought great economic prosperity to the border town, which is still visible in the streets today.
