The village of Austerlitz originated from a settlement of traders who tried to sell their trade to the army camp of French soldiers who were stationed here around 1804 and 18,000 strong. These soldiers also built the famous Pyramid of Austerlitz, which is located more than 2km NE of the village. After Napoleon's victory in Austerlitz, Czech Republic in 1805, King Louis Napoleon named the village Austerlitz. He wanted the village to grow into a real city. It never was, the village now has about 1500 inhabitants.
