In large parts of this area, Konik horses and Galloway cattle are active. Although these animals are gentle, it's best to keep a safe distance. Do not pet or feed the animals to avoid encouraging unwanted behavior from other visitors. The animals find enough food in the area year-round and have a strong herd instinct. Limburgs Landschap vzw and Natuurmonumenten aim to let these large grazers facilitate as many natural processes as possible. In spring, the animals eat the young grass, creating space for flower-rich herbs, while in winter they clean up scrub and nibble on branches and trees. This creates new open spaces. Through their fur, they spread seeds. Their droppings, in turn, are a source of food for plants and animals.
