On September 23, 2005, a statue of folk singer André Hazes was unveiled at the Albert Cuyp market, on Albert Cuypstraat. Hazes spent his childhood in De Pijp. His singing talent was discovered in 1959 by Johnny Kraaijkamp Sr. when André was singing at the Albert Cuyp market.
