Plein 1813, until 1863 Willemplein, is the independence square in The Hague. The square is located in the middle of the Willemspark district at the intersection of Alexanderstraat and Sophialaan. In the center of the square stands a monument.
In the square (an oval roundabout) is the monument dedicated to the victory over Napoleon, the end of the French era in the Netherlands, independence, and the establishment of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1813. The first stone was laid on November 17, 1863,[1] by King William III. The name of the square was then changed from Willemsplein to Plein 1813.
