From 1980 to 1985, the northern sea dike was raised to delta height by the Ommelanderzeedijk water board, necessitating the replacement of the old sluice from 1811 with a new pumping station. The old, bricked-up sluice became part of a land art project in 1986, a stone mosaic designed by J.H. van Loon. This artwork is already visible from afar.
