The current stone mill building dates from 1868, but the history of this watermill goes back a long way: there must have been a watermill on this site before 1320. For a long time, the Spoordonk watermill was successively owned by the noble families De Merode and Sweers de Landas and was leased to the Van Esch family in 1844. In 1900 the Van Esch family became the owner and still is.
The current owner, Emile van Esch, has thoroughly restored this monument and lives with his family in part of the mill building; The oil mill used to be located there.
Van Esch prefers to see the grains ground in his mill used for typical regional products. In the near future, De mulder hopes to be able to distill old jenever in collaboration with the liqueur museum in Hilvarenbeek. This in turn does justice to the often photographed advertisement on the mill of the long-disappeared brand Wyers Oude Jenever.
