FARMS ON THE OOSTERVEEN

Description

The Oosterveen is one of the oldest places in Nieuwleusen.
At Oosterveen 59 there used to be the havezathe Oosterveen.
This havezate was built around 1640 and was demolished in 1862.
Nieuwleusen has developed from the area around the havezate.
On the Oosterveen is one of the last sheepfolds of Nieuwleusen.
A wooden barn with a thatched roof. The corners were rounded so that the sheep could not crush each other to death. In earlier years, about 40 sheepfolds could be found in Nieuwleusen. The sheep were kept for the wool and manure.
