The bronze Bukkum/Bokking was placed after the renovation of the village center in 1988 on the initiative of the then Bukkembuurt. Bokking is smoked herring, formerly the staple food for poor people. You always smelled the fish smell of fried and smoked herring in the Bukkemerbuurt. The neighborhood pretty much spread from tower to tower and from Molendijk to Pastoriestraat. It was a poor working-class neighborhood with the legendary fish shop of Kolbe. The people there have nicknames such as Keuchie, Zwiepus and Grotendorst. The residents have wandered throughout the Netherlands, but since the 70s they come together as much as possible at the end of the year during the traditional Bukkemer futsal tournament. Conviviality, conviviality, togetherness and butter with the fish, which characterizes this neighborhood, are present as usual.
