In 1358 the construction of the building began, but after 156 years the need for reform was seen as the building was almost ruined. Until 1923 the building was a prison and in 1967 due to its historical legacy it became part of the city council. After the acquisition, the building was renovated and in 1984 the Maritime Museum was installed, which we can see today. But there are still remnants of the old building such as the latticed windows on the second floor. It is called the Count Stone, in this case the Count Holland, Zeeland and West Frisland. It was used as a municipal office. On the ground floor of the house was the guard, while the second floor and attic were where the criminals were locked up. Many of the executions were carried out by placing a corpse in front of the door so that the whole town could see it.
