At 108 km, the river Linge is the longest river in the Netherlands and was originally a tributary of the Waal that was dammed around 1200 near Tiel. At this point it is the 'Beneden Linge' which is a beautiful meandering river from Zoelen because of the natural watercourse. Shipping is also possible on this part of the river. The 'Boven Linge' is an artificial part and is fed by an inlet lock at Doornenburg from the Pannerdensch Kanaal. As a result, the many fruit growers in the Betuwe can also be supplied with the right amount of water. The Linge ends at Gorinchem in De Merwede.
