The striking facade of the high and wide double building with a vestibule on the side and a balustrade above was designed in 1865 and painted in a cream color in various shades.
There is a long history behind the 19th facade. The building originally consisted of two houses, the oldest building traces dating back to the fifteenth century.
For the entire 18th century, the building was owned by members of the prominent Schagen regent family, while the 19th century was dominated by the noble Alewijn family.
The family coats of arms of Pieter Opperdoes Alewijn and his second wife Margaretha Swart still decorate the facade.
