The Statencollege from 1632 was built as the administrative seat and meeting building of the Committed Councils of West Friesland and the Noorderkwartier. This was an important regional government consisting of the cities of Hoorn, Enkhuizen, Medemblik, Alkmaar, Monnickendam, Edam and Purmerend. The stone lions on the steps of the stepped gable each present one of the seven city coats of arms. The Westfries Museum is now housed in this building.
