Berkelplein is a square in the town of Valkenburg, municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul, in the Dutch province of Limburg. The square is located southeast just outside the old city center in the Neerhem district.
The square is approximately 150 meters east of the Berkelpoort, which is named after a certain Heinric van Birckelaer, owner of the feudal estate Nederheim and residing at castle Den Halder. About the location of the Berkelplein lay the eastern city moat until the 17th century, which was known as Berkelwijer at that location. The Middle Dutch 'wijer' means pond or marsh.
