The Youth Village was founded by the Dominican Sisters of Bethany and put into use in 1957. The official opening, in the presence of then-princess Beatrix, took place in 1960. It involved the care of youth placed out of home.
In 1959, the monastery was completed. The sisters came from Magdalenahof in Exaten near Baexem, where a care institution already existed for children of convicted NSB members and other war criminals. From 1983, the management was in the hands of laypersons, and in 1988, it merged with Huize Clara Fey in Roermond.
