After the Leusder Heide you walk through a varied forest-heath landscape and pass a few farms. The meadows around it are drained peat lakes: Langeveen, Waswater and Hazenwater. And the Vogelwater, until recently De Droogmakerij. When this reclamation deepened in 2017, remnants of a primeval forest were found, about 12,900 years old. In the end, 160 pine trees were unearthed, up to 18 m high and more than 167 years old. One of the oldest – and well-preserved – primeval forests in the Netherlands!
