Schans Slijkenburg
Slijkenburg is located at the place where De Lende and De Tsjonger/Kuun-der used to merge. The redoubt of Slijkenburg was used to defend both rivers. For the construction of the Statendijk in 1702, the redoubt was completely dismantled. Soil from the redoubt was used for the dike. The lock was moved to Schoterzijl, the bridge of the lock remained in Slijkenburg. In 1842 the lock was filled in and Slij-kenburg lost its linking function between the two rivers
