On the 234-hectare Noordhout estate, which was already wooded in the 19th century, there are some historic fields and a monumental hunting lodge from 1852. At that time, the area consisted of wild lands. Part of Noordhout has been designated as a forest reserve and is not open to the public. Here the natural processes can take their course. On 8 October 2013, the Mollebos ecoduct over the A12 motorway and the Utrecht - Arnhem railway line was opened near the hunting lodge. Animals can move between the southern and central part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug.
