Assen station is the railway station in Assen that was opened on May 1, 1870. The original station building was designed by the architect Karel van Brederode and was built in 1868. It belonged to a renewed version of the standard type SS third class.
From 1905 to 1947, there was also passenger transport on the railway line to Stadskanaal. This line was dismantled in 1977. Source: Wikipedia
The station area in Assen has been completely renovated. In 2016, ProRail began the renovation. We completed the work on the tracks in 2017. In February 2020, the new Assen station was festively opened. ProRail built a new station building, together with NS and the municipality of Assen. The new station building is spacious, sustainable and even more accessible. This is due to the new elevators, wider staircases and the new tunnel, with an entrance on the east side. Source: ProRail
