The Watersnoodmonument is a memorial in the Dutch town of Kruiningen, in the province of Zeeland.
In the night of January 31 to February 1, 1953, a flood disaster occurred, during which the ferry port at Kruiningen was swept away and the Kruiningerpolder was flooded. 62 residents of Kruiningen lost their lives. The Amsterdam artist Jan Wolkers was commissioned by the municipality to create a monument in memory of the flood disaster. He designed a glass figure of a floating figure amid two waves, which was rejected by the municipality. For his second design, he chose the image of a young woman holding a drowned child against her, with just the little hand still visible. Wolkers' wife Maria served as the model. The design was exhibited at the end of 1956 at the Sint Lucas exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
