The railway bridge on the Kanaalweg (gem. Hulst) is a remnant of the railway line (54) Mechelen-Terneuzen. It was part of the Belgian railway line Société Du Chemin De Fer International de Malines à Terneuzen, which opened in 1871. It was not until 1948 that the railway came into the hands of the NS. Goods passed here: straw, grain, beets, peas, farmyard manure, flax, fruit, walnuts but also marble from Italy, wool from Australia, pine trees, iron ore, cows and pigs. In the early 1950s, passenger transport from Terneuzen to Hulst and Belgium ended, and in 1968 the last freight train passed through here. In the railway house (already renovated) lived the track keeper who took care of safety and the notification to Kijkuit station that the train was arriving.
