This first viaduct built in Zeelandic Flanders was to preserve the Count Jansdijk in the area and
to provide ample space for the railway line (54) Mechelen-Terneuzen, which was already
established in 1871. The viaduct from 1912 with wrought iron balustrades is an early example of
utilitarian construction with reinforced concrete and has been designated as an industrial monument
since 2005. Under the bridge stands a memorial in the form of a railway crossing, which is also a
rest stop on the hiking route Spoorpad.
