The word pointing (including wisent or wisend) is probably related to the verb pointing (Middle Dutch: wisen), here in the sense of the government designating a route of a quay or flood defence.
The Langereis was dug as a drainage canal and replaced a water that bore the name Wisen(t). For a drainage canal it was a fairly long canal, so it was called De Lange Reise. Later it is written as De Lange Reys, which refers to the fact that it took quite a bit of time if one traveled along the entire canal. Via the Langereis, the excess polder water at Aartswoud was diverted into the former Zuiderzee.
It is no coincidence that many wise men form the boundary of a mining block. If we look at a fragment of the topographic map, it is clear that the direction of the subdivision on both sides of the Langereis is different. This is because we are on the border of two major mining blocks: the Vier Noorder Koggen and the Schager and Niedorper Koggen. (Red arrows indicate the subdivision direction in both subdivision blocks.)
