The Minervalaan is the goddess of the Zuidas, according to Maarten Kloos and Marlies Buurman (Architecture Center Amsterdam). Bernard Hulsman from the NRC called the avenue a senseless street, stretching from a vague square around the Hilton hotel to a vague square in front of station Zuid.
The design is a masterpiece of urban planning, created in one gesture by architect J.C. Blaauw, with the Minervaplein in the center. Due to the strict rhythm of relatively small and detailed window sections, you cannot see where a home begins or ends. As a child, I thought it was one big hospital. For such a beautiful square, it is actually remarkably quiet.
