If you walk under the gatehouse at the Meerhuizenstraat, you may get the feeling that something crazy is going on. That's right: this building was erected at the beginning of the 21st century, replacing a number of buildings that were in poor condition. Architect Liesbeth van der Pol has designed 105 homes for this corner of the city, which are a compliment to the Amsterdam School. It is a beautiful ensemble with different colors of brick, round and at the same time angular bay windows and ingenious windows. The whole fits in nicely with the former Berlage school, on the north side of the square, now a day care for people with intellectual disabilities, Philadelphia. Separate are also the two supersonic retail spaces on the Uithoornstraat.
