This border triangle was once a four-country point, which is a great rarity in the world. The Vierlandenpunt was formed by Belgium, Prussia/Germany, the Netherlands and Neutral Moresnet.
Due to the independence of Belgium in 1830, the Drielandenpunt on the Neutraleweg near Ottersum was abolished and a four-country point was created on the Vaalserberg between Belgium, first Prussia and later Germany, the Netherlands and Neutral Moresnet. In 1919, Neutral-Moresnet was annexed to Belgium and this point disappeared.
