Over the centuries, the river Maas has shaped the landscape in Limburg in diverse and fascinating ways. This resulted in a complex network of old river channels, dikes, and floodplains, with characteristic flora and fauna. Historical cities, picturesque villages, and magnificent castles testify to a past that is closely intertwined with the Maas.
