The sea lock in Muiden, with its drawbridge, is the centerpiece of the fortress and offers a stunning panorama over the town on the Vecht. This walk starts at the free parking lot at the exit of the A1 motorway. Follow the green signs to the fortress and Muiderslot. Two historical pedestrian bridges open up the fortress from the southwest. The small park Fermanplantsoen leads to the first houses, including several houseboats in the fortress moat and beautifully restored seventeenth-century buildings on Weesperstraat.

Through a lane on the left side, you reach Singelstraat, where Dick Rozendaal has his tourist information office. At the end of Weesperstraat, turn right towards the lock, where you can admire Muiderslot. Outside the lock, the Zuiderzee/IJsselmeer fishermen used to live. The walk continues along Ton Kootsingel to the south, where the Fort D barracks is an important public building. Here, the municipal council meets and receptions and weddings are organized. The library is beautifully located behind thick brick walls.

Along Fort H, which is being restored, the walk can be concluded via a pedestrian path next to the motorway. Walking back along Herengracht is more atmospheric but takes a bit more time.
