Description by the author

Meet in Philippine at the intersection of Kasteelstraat with Havenstraat and Visserslaan, at cycle junction 12. You leave through the Kasteelstraat, direction Biervliet and KP 04. Cross an intersection and then turn right into the Mussel Shortening. Ignore the side streets and cycle out of the center of Philippine below the dike. Turn right with the narrow asphalt road and follow the Mosselpolderstraat to the left on the T, direction Biervliet. You bolt through a beautiful polder landscape with canada poplars and here and there a farm. Turn right before the dike and then left into Kruisstraat. Cross a crossroads and at the end follow the Isabellaweg to the right, direction Biervliet. You cycle next to a wide ditch and further along the parking lot of nature reserve Braakman and arrive at KP 04. Turn left, direction KP 10, on a paved cycle path, which runs through the Braakman–Zuid nature reserve.

You kick into the forest and pass a picnic area. When you come out of the forest, you meander between meadows and you can swim along the Isabella Canal, which you cross via an arched bridge. From the bridge you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. Descend, follow the bend around a grove and then a stream to the T. Turn left until you reach the asphalt road with KP 10. Turn left again, direction KP 36. You cycle past a farm and turn right onto the first road. On the T, immediately after, again on the right. You now cycle down the dike on the Savooyaardsweg, in the direction of Biervliet.

The asphalt turns into a gravel road and at the fork you turn right and cycle along a beautiful creek. Then turn left into Bolderweg. You drive on a cobblestone road with grass in the middle, turn left at the first intersection and follow the Driesprongweg, an asphalt road with cycle paths with dotted lines, towards Philippine. Don't worry about side roads until you can turn right onto the Kapitalendam. On KP 36, ignore the Passageuleweg on the left and continue to follow the Kapitalen dam, direction KP 19. At the end, on the T with KP 19, turn left towards KP 31. It continues on the Annaweg. At the crossroads, cycle straight ahead and enter the Pyramide neighbourhood community. Take the first street on the right (Pyramide) and continue cycling until you reach the end of the agglomeration sign. Then take the first road on the right, straight ahead are the cobblestones. You cycle along the Blauwe Hofstede, ignore all side roads and continue cycling over the inner dike to the T. There you follow the Mollekotweg to the right. At the end you come to the crossroads with KP 31. Cross the priority road and continue cycling along the Oudemansdijk to KP 32. Turn left, direction KP 45. You cycle on cobblestones and the street is called Kasseiweg. At the end of the Kassei road you go past border post 328 to KP 45 and turn left, direction KP 47.

Cycling right on the border

At the fork at the white house, keep left and continue cycling right on the border through the open polder landscape. On an inner dike you turn left with the road and cycle to the intersection with restaurant La Marmite and border post 327. Cross the road with a left nod on the right (on the right you will see the Watervliet name sign) and continue cycling on the border. On the T turn left and continue until you reach an intersection with border marker 326. Follow Mollekot to the right and choose at the crossroads on the left. Ignore the Preutelstraat on the left and follow the Calusdijk to the end, on a T. Turn left until kp 47. There, take the right path and then the first road on the right, towards KP 60. You cycle on a road, consisting of two concrete strips. At the first intersection, on KP 60, turn left towards KP 57. You cycle almost unnoticed parallel to the Leopold canal. At the end, the road splits. Choose the cobblestone strip on the right and turn right on the T.

Cross the Leopold Canal via the Stenenschuurbrug and continue cycling to KP 57. Turn left, direction KP 53. You will pass a picnic area and an information board about the Isabellapolder and a cupboard from which you can take information brochures. To the right of the dike is a large orchard. You cycle along the Noorddijk between two rows of canada poplars. At the junction with KP 53, turn right towards KP 54 and Boekhoute. You continue to follow the Noorddijk and wind through the beautiful polder landscape to the crossroads with KP 54 and café Het Spoor. Continue straight on, through Spoorstraat, direction KP 55. Cross the Isabella Canal and a crossroads. On KP 55, follow the old railway bed to the left, direction Assenede, Boekhoute and KP 52. Cross the N458 and continue along the Sperwatergang with robust bridges that allow access to the fields At every bridge you get shark teeth for the wheels, because agricultural traffic has priority. Continue to KP 52 and leave the old railway bed to the left, towards KP 51.

You cycle past farm shop Van der Linden and turn right on the T. Turn left with Vliet and continue cycling to the T with KP 51. Turn right, direction KP 91. At the first fork you choose left and you do the same at the fork immediately after. You enter the Kapellestraat and follow it to the left. Then take the first street on the right, the Doornendijkstraat, dead end but not for cyclists. At the fork you cross the Doornendijk and cycle further down the dike. The path on top of the dike is reserved for hikers. They get a nice view of the Grote Geul. You don't get that down the road. You also won't notice anything from the Red Trench on the left from the bike. You cycle along the SintJanspolder, diked in 1519, and bolt past a sign that warns of an agricultural lock: a concrete block that cars cannot cross but that tracktors have no problems with. You will come across two agricultural locks. In autumn, they are barely visible under the thick layer of fallen leaves. So cycle right or left of the road, but certainly not in the middle. At the end, you'll be on a cobblestone stretch and next to café Passé. You can take that name literally, because the café is closed. On the T turn left until KP 91. Then turn right into the Oude Molenstraat, direction KP 93.

Diked polders, washed-out creeks

Cross the Vlietbeek and then take the first road on the right, the Smoutersdijkstraat. You cycle along the Vliethoeve with farm terrace, where you can go for pancakes, waffles, farm ice cream and regional beers. Continue cycling along the Vlietbeek and at the fork continue almost straight until KP 93. Turn left, direction KP 87. Cross an intersection and continue through the Groenendijkstraat. At the end, follow the Valkstraat to the right until you reach KP 87. '500 measured' is the name of the polder on the other side. Turn left, direction KP 86. On the T turn left again. Then take the first street on the right, the Gezustersstraat. On your left is the Albertpolder, diked in 1612. A little further on you cycle between the Grote and kleine Kilkreek. They were washed out in 1808. Turn left with the road and then you 'bump' into a dead end. Bypass it with a right left nod and cycle further on the border until you reach a dike with a boundary post on top. Left.

The concrete road turns into cobblestones and you bolt along the Hollands Gat (washed out in 1808). The cobblestones make way for a new concrete strip. Turn left with the road and continue cycling over the Scheurhoekdijk. You bolt along the Gezusterskreken (washed out in 1516) and turn at the Scheurhoekhoeve with the dike to the right. On the right the SintPieterspolder (diked in 1633) and on the left the Albertpolder. On KP 86 you cycle almost straight ahead into the Hollekenstraat, towards KP 88. You bolt along a wide canal with some picturesque houses below dikes and then arrive at the Bottomless Pit (washed out in 180809).

Continue cycling on the border until you reach FP 88. Follow the Posthoornweg to the right, direction Philippine and KP 12. You will pass border marker 319, Sierheersters De Posthoorn and between a few orchards. Past the Philippine nameplate you cycle into the mussel town. Cross an intersection and then cycle diagonally right across Philipsplein and continue via Havenstraat to KP 12.
