Small family tour through Aurith and Urad

Captain ahoy - foreign land in sight!

A little discovery tour by the water - in two countries and with a ferry! Where can you find something like that? Of course, on the middle Oder in Aurith and Urad. Packed with binoculars, compass, and rubber boots - and off we go on the tour!

From the parking lot at the entrance of Aurith, always head northeast towards the Oder dike. Keep an eye out in Aurith not to miss the campsites - a snack before boarding gives strength for whatever may come. Quickly pull out the binoculars on the dike crown: What's the situation on land and on the water? Am I being watched from the tower on the other bank? How can I sneak up on the boat dock as inconspicuously as possible?

When the Oder ferry docks, boarding must be quick. Get on the boat and off you go! Maybe a short prayer to the god of this river, Viadrus, for a smooth crossing. The captain will take you to the other bank without objection.

But what's going on here? Why is suddenly a different language spoken? And why are different coins used to pay at the small village store? And overall, it looks completely different here... A beautiful old village on a high bank named Urad.

From the river to the village, it's a bit uphill. But quickly climb up the 30-meter-high lookout tower to get an overview of the situation. A broad and calm flowing river, named Oder, with small "ramps" every few meters on the banks. The captain would explain that they are called groynes and they ensure that the river doesn't erode too much of the banks during floods.

Time to explore the Oder bank. While walking southeast along the river, you can climb on and between the groynes. If you are very quiet and hide a little, you can observe rare birds or other animals living by the water.

At some point, the path leads away from the Oder into the forest, but only so deep that you can still catch a glimpse of the light from the Oder meadows. Here you can collect berries and mushrooms. Following the path towards a pump station in the meadows by the Oder. Once you cross a canal over a small bridge, you've almost made it. You are in the middle of the fertile Oder meadows with many fields and meadows. Here you can quietly sneak along the paths and watch deer grazing.
