The palace of Dom Manuel was a royal palace where many Portuguese kings resided. According to the chronicle, the palace consisted of several buildings, including a Renaissance monastery, the Sala da Rainha, the refectory, and the royal library. Little remains of the palace. The palace was one of the most important buildings in the country and it also had enormous historical value. It was here that Vasco da Gama was commissioned to find a sea route to India.
