The Serra de Arrábida is a rocky coastline that rises to 501 meters in height on the north side of the Sado estuary. The limestone mountain range is about 30 kilometers long and 7 kilometers wide.
Striking is the difference between both sides of the mountain range. The southern slope drops abruptly into the Ocean. The white and ochre of the limestones, the green of the pine trees and cypress trees, and the blue of the Atlantic Ocean make this side particularly spectacular. The northern side of the mountain range has gentler slopes on which vines, olive trees, and fruit trees grow, interspersed with rocky grounds where hardly anything grows. We are now driving through a nature park of about 10,000 hectares. For comparison: the Kalmthout Heath is the largest nature reserve in Flanders and about 1,000 hectares in size.
At the T-junction, we turn left onto the N379-1. After 3.3 kilometers, in Cascais da Serra, we turn left ON A GRAVEL ROAD.
