This palace is one of the most beautiful civil buildings in the city and was built in the 16th century by Fernando Brandão as the residence of Abreu Távora (Counts of Carreira, the heralds are on the facade of the palace ), but was later remodeled by the military architect Manuel Pinto Villalobos in the 18th century.
The building occupies an entire city block and has a typical Manueline architecture, with beautiful windows and doors with stone frames. A small baroque chapel is attached to the north façade.
The town hall offices have been located here since 1972.
