Dieser Palast ist eines der schönsten Zivilgebäude der Stadt und wurde im 16. Jahrhundert von Fernando Brandão als Residenz von Abreu Távora (Grafen von Carreira, die Herolde befinden sich an der Fassade des Palastes ) erbaut, später jedoch umgebaut vom Militärarchitekten Manuel Pinto Villalobos im 18. Jahrhundert.
Das Gebäude nimmt einen ganzen Apfel ein und weist eine typisch manuelinische Architektur mit wunderschönen Fenstern und Türen mit Steinrahmen auf. An der Nordfassade ist eine kleine Barockkapelle angebaut.
Seit 1972 befindet sich hier der Sitz des Stadtrats .
