The construction of the present parish church in 1496 replaced an earlier church , of which no traces remain.
The Mother Church of Vila do Conde is one of the most emblematic monuments in the city and province and is also one of the most important in the Manueline style in the country, with elements of Gothic and Renaissance architecture.
Highlights include the heavily decorated portico , whose authorship is attributed to João de Castilho, and the quadrangular bell tower , built in 1573 by João Lopes, O Velho.
Inside, the altarpieces, the pulpit and the richly decorated vaults of the chapels and the polychrome stone arch are striking.
Inside you can also visit the Museum of Sacred Art , by appointment with the parish services of Vila do Conde.
