Der Bau der heutigen Pfarrkirche im Jahr 1496 ersetzte eine frühere Kirche , von der keine Überreste mehr vorhanden sind.
Die Hauptkirche von Vila do Conde ist eines der bedeutendsten Monumente der Stadt und der Provinz und weist mit ihren Elementen der Gotik und Renaissance zugleich eines der bedeutendsten Bauwerke im manuelinischen Stil des Landes auf.
Hervorzuheben sind der reich verzierte Portikus , dessen Urheberschaft João de Castilho zugeschrieben wird, und der viereckige Glockenturm , der 1573 von João Lopes, O Velho, erbaut wurde.
Im Inneren fallen die Altarbilder, die Kanzel und die Gewölbe der reich verzierten Kapellen sowie der vielfarbige Steinbogen auf.
Im Inneren können Sie nach Vereinbarung auch das Museum für Sakrale Kunst besuchen, wenn Sie sich in der Pfarrei von Vila do Conde anmelden.
