La construcción de la actual iglesia parroquial en 1496 sustituyó a una iglesia anterior , de la que no quedan vestigios.
La Iglesia Matriz de Vila do Conde es uno de los monumentos más emblemáticos de la ciudad y de la provincia y es también uno de los más importantes de estilo manuelino del país, con elementos de la arquitectura gótica y renacentista.
Destacan el pórtico profusamente decorado , cuya autoría se atribuye a João de Castilho, y el campanario cuadrangular , construido en 1573 por João Lopes, O Velho.
En su interior destacan los retablos, el púlpito y las bóvedas de las capillas ricamente decoradas y el arco de piedra policromada.
En su interior también se puede visitar el Museo de Arte Sacro , previa cita en los servicios parroquiales de Vila do Conde.
