L'attuale chiesa parrocchiale, costruita nel 1496, sostituì una chiesa precedente , di cui non restano tracce.
La chiesa madre di Vila do Conde è uno dei monumenti più emblematici della città e della provincia , nonché uno dei più importanti esempi di stile manuelino del Paese, con elementi di architettura gotica e rinascimentale.
I punti salienti includono il portico riccamente decorato , la cui paternità è attribuita a João de Castilho, e il campanile quadrangolare , costruito nel 1573 da João Lopes, O Velho.
All'interno colpiscono le pale d'altare, il pulpito, le volte riccamente decorate delle cappelle e l'arco in pietra policroma.
All'interno è possibile visitare anche il Museo d'Arte Sacra , previo appuntamento con i servizi parrocchiali di Vila do Conde.
