Bom Jesus do Monte in Braga is one of the most iconic and impressive sanctuaries in Portugal.
The entrance is marked by a large stone triumphal arch , often called the "Arco do Bom Jesus" . This gate symbolizes the passage from the ordinary world to the sacred place . It is decorated with baroque and neoclassical details .
Right at the entrance you will find statues of biblical figures and saints, inviting visitors to contemplation. Themes such as penance and faith are often emphasized.
From here begins the iconic zigzag staircase (Escadório do Bom Jesus), with 577 steps.
