As Queen Christina's chronicler Priorato mentioned she stayed one night at the royal castle of Jönköping during here journey to the south after her abdication in 1654. The castle burned down in 1737. It was never rebuilt. The ruins were removed in the 19th century. The history of the fortress and the castle is showed in the nearby Jönköping Läns Museum at the Slottsgatan.
